First, identify where the download stopped
There are two different stages: Get download link retrieves an available MP4, and Download MP4 starts saving that file through your browser. If the first stage fails, check the source link and the message on KeepReels. If the second stage starts but you cannot find a file, check your browser's download list.
Start with these three checks:
- Use a full HTTPS link to an individual public Instagram Reel or single-video post, with a
/reel/or/p/path. - Open that post on Instagram to check whether it still exists. Being visible while you are signed in does not establish that the downloader can access it anonymously.
- Try KeepReels directly in Safari or Chrome. If the result has expired, resolve the original post link again before downloading.
Then follow the section that matches the message or symptom you see.
The link is invalid or the media is unsupported
Copy the individual post's link again using Instagram's share menu, or copy its browser address. Paste only the complete URL into the download tool, without surrounding text.
Supported inputs are public single-video posts and Reels. A link to a profile, Story, photo, or carousel is not a supported input. KeepReels also needs an available, supported MP4; a valid-looking post address does not guarantee that the source supplies one.
Switching browsers will not turn an unsupported media type into a supported video. Try a different public single-video post or Reel.
The video is unavailable
Check whether the post was removed, made private, or otherwise restricted. If Instagram still shows it to you, anonymous requests may nevertheless be blocked or the media may be temporarily unavailable to the downloader.
Try another public video to see whether the issue affects one post. If it does, come back to the original later. KeepReels does not use your Instagram login to retrieve restricted content, and retrying cannot guarantee access.
Too many requests
Pause for about a minute before trying again. Avoid repeatedly submitting the same link or opening several download attempts at once; additional attempts can keep encountering the request limit.
When you retry, submit one supported link and let the current attempt finish.
The downloader is busy or the video took too long
The service has limited capacity, and Instagram may respond slowly. Wait a little, then make one deliberate retry. If the same post still times out, try another public link or return later.
A busy or timeout message does not establish that the post is private. KeepReels cannot guarantee that every public video will be available at every moment.
The video exceeds the 100 MiB limit
KeepReels limits each download to 100 MiB. Try a smaller source video. Duration alone is not a reliable size check: resolution and encoding also affect the file size.
The tool does not compress, trim, or transcode an oversized video, so submitting the same source again will not reduce its size.
The download link has expired
Download links expire after five minutes. Keep the original Instagram post URL, return to the tool, and choose Get a fresh download link or submit that original URL again. Use the new result to start your download.
An old download address is not the same as the Instagram post link. Refreshing or sharing the expired address will not renew it. A service restart can also invalidate a temporary link before its displayed expiration time.
The transfer stops or a video opens without saving
Check the browser's download list for a failed or unfinished transfer. Confirm that your connection is working and that the device has room for the file. If you need to start over, get a fresh download link from the original post.
If a new tab only plays the video, look for the browser's download or share action. Opening the player alone is not proof that a complete MP4 has been saved locally.
- iPhone: check Safari's Downloads button and Files. Follow the iPhone saving guide to add a compatible MP4 to Photos.
- Android: check Chrome's menu and Downloads, or open Files. The Android saving guide also covers files missing from a gallery app.
Frequently asked questions
Can signing in make a private link work here?
KeepReels does not offer Instagram sign-in or private-account downloading. Your ability to view a post in your own account does not change the tool's public-media scope.
Will retrying restore missing sound or improve the resolution?
The tool uses the supported MP4 made available by the source. It cannot restore missing audio, remove embedded branding, or promise a higher source resolution.
Where should I start after fixing the issue?
Return to the Instagram video downloader, paste the original supported post link, and make one new attempt.
