The short version
Copy a public Reel's link, open KeepReels in Safari, and download the MP4. Wait for Safari to finish, then find the file in Files → Downloads. To add a compatible video to your camera roll, open that file, tap Share, and choose Save Video if the option is available.
Downloading a file and adding it to Photos are separate steps. A video can be saved successfully in Files without appearing in Photos yet.
1. Copy the link to the Reel
- Open the Reel or single-video post in Instagram.
- Open its share menu and choose Copy link. Menu wording and placement can vary with the app version.
- If you are viewing the post in a browser, copy the address of that individual Reel or post instead.
KeepReels accepts full HTTPS Instagram links with a /reel/ or /p/ path. Profile pages, Stories, photos, carousels, and private content are outside the tool's supported scope. A public link can still be unavailable to the downloader.
2. Download the MP4 in Safari
- Open Safari directly and go to the Instagram video downloader.
- Paste the link into Instagram video or Reel link. If the Paste button cannot read the clipboard, touch and hold the field and use your phone's paste menu.
- Choose Get download link and wait for the result. The page shows the video's available details when it can retrieve a supported MP4.
- Choose Download MP4. If Safari asks you to confirm the download, confirm it.
- Check Safari's Downloads button and wait until the transfer has finished before opening the file.
If you reached KeepReels through the browser inside Instagram or another app, open the same page directly in Safari and paste the link there. In-app browsers can handle downloads differently.
3. Find the video in Files
Tap Safari's Downloads button to see recent downloads. You can also open Files, tap Browse, and look in iCloud Drive → Downloads. If Safari uses a different download location, check that folder, including On My iPhone where applicable.
Open the completed MP4 and check that it plays. If you cannot find it, return to Safari's download list before downloading another copy. Seeing a video preview alone does not establish that the file has finished saving.
4. Save a compatible MP4 to Photos
- Open the downloaded video in Files.
- Tap Share.
- Choose Save Video if it is offered.
- Open Photos and look for the video in your library or recently saved items.
If Save Video is missing, first confirm that the download finished and that the MP4 plays in Files. The available share actions depend on the file and your iOS version. You can keep or share a playable file from Files even when Photos does not offer an import action.
If a video opens in a new tab
Look for Safari's download or share action. If the browser offers Save to Files, choose a location you can find again, then check the saved file. Do not assume that opening the player has put the video in Photos.
If a transfer stops or the download link expires, return to KeepReels and choose Get a fresh download link or submit the original Instagram link again. Download links are temporary. The download troubleshooting guide explains expired links, busy servers, and unsupported media.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an iPhone app or Instagram login?
KeepReels runs in Safari and does not ask for your Instagram password. You do not need to install another downloader app. This does not provide access to private or otherwise restricted content.
Does saving a Reel inside Instagram put it in Photos?
An in-app saved item is different from a local MP4. To keep a file on your phone, complete the browser download, find it in Files, and use Save Video when available.
Does KeepReels remove a watermark already in the video?
KeepReels adds no watermark. Existing logos, captions, and branding embedded in the source video remain in the downloaded file.
Can I follow these steps on Android?
The file-finding steps are different. Use the Android download guide for Chrome, Downloads, and gallery questions.
